31 12 2007

If you’re looking for something to do for NYE that won’t break your pocket I will be spinning alongside Soulversatile and the homie Davee Ki at a spot n College. Please ignore the fact that the name of the event is Disco Inferno and come check it out anyhow. I promise I’ll come strapped with some real niceness.

This Guy Is 4 Real

31 12 2007

I remember him mentioning this at the M1 concert about a year ago. Sol Guy, manager to The Rascalz and K’naan now has a show on CTV called 4 Real and I managed to catch a bit of last weeks episode with M.I.A.

It’s easy for a lot of people to miss, so just in case the holidays have had you too wrapped up, I thought you should know that the new Pound Magazine is out, featuring Grammy fave, Kanye, on the cover.

I know by morning this will be on all the major blogs across the innerweb, but I thought I may as well benefit from staying up so late.

Hip Hop History

25 12 2007

picture-1.png

I’ve had the fortune of meeting Infinite Kung Fu illustrator, Kagan Mcleod a few years back when CKLN had it’s fundfest and I had an ambition to track down prize incentives. Kagan offered up some early editions of his Hip Hop History Poster which folks ate up with the quickness.

A Music Makeover

25 12 2007

New music on the cusp of 2008 comes from drummer/producer Daru Jones. With his smooth genre of soul-hop, he’s made my job of organizing my music library that much more difficult. I’ve yet to check out all of the multiple free downloads available on his myspace page but after a few listens to Feel The Love a project with his sister Rena Jones and the Spirit Soulhop Sampler, it’s evident that this is a name to look out for.

The Beat Migration

20 12 2007

I first saw Maracatu Nunca Antes tear it up this past summer at Salsa on St Clair and boy did they ever put on a show. I apparently missed their showdown with Samba Squad that day so I may have to make up for it by checking out their show at Lula Lounge tonight. Typically I don’t go anywhere on Thursdays but with the holiday coming up I think I can sacrifice one Friday without sleep. If anything I will breeze through for a CD so I can think Brazil through the winter months.

How We Get Down

18 12 2007

Somehow the Sagittarius Cool Out turned into the Kornflake Saymore hour over at the Moja Tea Gallery on Saturday. My man had everyone cracking up with his version of The Little Drummer Boy while birthday boy Son of S.O.U.L held it down on the wheels. My plans of rolling through for a quick minute turned into a lengthy couple of hours but hey, that’s what Saturdays are for.

In any case, here’s an early holiday hook up for those who couldn’t make it out. Don’t say I never give you nothing.

Never Scared…Of Snow

18 12 2007

I just got word that Chris Rock is coming to Toronto in March 2008. I imagine that tickets will move a lot faster than Stevie tickets did, but then Massey Hall is a fraction of the size. And even though it’s been a minute since Chris Rock put out a DVD or album, he will always be relevant for this, this and of course this.

Good Gugga Mugga

17 12 2007

Normally when I get an email with a link that says click here to watch Wet Dreams, my reaction is ummm……. delete! But this time around Wet Dreams is actually the title of the new single from Hanif- Jamiyl,  one third of the group Maspyke, so I took my chances.
